Is Vegetarian Keto Possible? Does Vegetarian Keto

work? Yes and Yes!

A vegetarian keto diet is exactly what it sounds like: A vegetarian lifestyle smashed together with a keto lifestyle. Vegetarians don’t eat meat (not even fish or seafood thanks for the clarification) but rather thrive by eating mostly vegetables, beans, grains, and some eggs and dairy… but ideally, no dairy. No, you do not need to eat ungodly amounts of bacon, dairy, or red meat to do keto.

‘Keto’ is a metabolic state in which the body burns its own stored body fat for energy.

What it is not is a magical land where there are zero calories and you thrive on just good vibes and meat cakes. This legit made me lol. Your metabolism is the process your body uses to make energy. Keto is short for Ketosis, which is when the body switches fuel sources from carbohydrates (sugar) to ketones. Just remember ketones as clean, natural fuel versus sugar being dirty ole’ gasoline.

The simplest way of explaining it is that the body needs fuel to function. Sugar is fuel to the body and sugar comes in many forms. One form is carbohydrates. Carbs can be in anything from biscuits (processed carbs-bad) to broccoli (complex carbs-good). The body breaks down the carbs we eat and burns them (just like coal in an old-timey train) to do all the fun body functions we do.

Veggie Keto is a lifestyle and not a diet. Diets are typically short lived and rarely yield any lasting results. Lifestyles incorporate long term habits into the mix. The body can stay in ketosis (fat burning) as long as two major things happen:

1) There is body fat to burn

2) Insulin is not consistently  present.

A veggie keto lifestyle is eating high amounts of vegetables, high healthy fats, medium amounts of protein, and very little to no carbs or sugar.

High healthy fats on veggie keto include nuts and nut butters, seeds, avocados, eggs, olives, coconut oil, and olive oil. These healthy fats are called dietary fats and are very satisfying to hunger. The best part is fats do not spike your blood sugar or insulin.

Think of a hybrid car that’s part gasoline, part battery powered (clean energy). Ketosis is your body’s natural clean energy. Bet you didn’t know your body could do that, huh? It’s all natural, it’s safe, and it happens automatically. But it does require you to tell your body it’s time to run clean.

A vegetarian and keto lifestyle is very powerful when combined together because it promotes healing of so many preventable health issues. Both are anti-inflammatory ways of eating, and both are very sustainable tools you should add to your busy lifestyle. Most people are controlled by their blood sugar levels. Hunger is not always 100% about willpower. Most of the time, uncontrollable hunger is the result of the last high-carb, high-sugar meal you ate which was probably not nutritious at all. Although it might seem like you’re eating way less food, the fact is that you’ll be eating far more nutrient-dense meals, and both cause far less inflammation.
